In Over 1,000 Pairs Sold, We've Had 3 Returns
We have sold over 1,000 pairs of Kibu headphones. In that time, we have had three returns.
Three.
If you are new to Kibu, that number might surprise you. Children's products and returns tend to go hand in hand. Kids are curious, enthusiastic, and not always gentle. Things break. Stuff gets sent back.
So why does that barely happen with us?

A Different Kind of Headphones
Kibu headphones are not like other children's headphones. They arrive as a kit that children build themselves, with a little help from a grown-up. No fiddly screws, no complicated wiring. Just simple, satisfying building that most kids can do in about 20 minutes.
But the really important part comes later.
Because Kibu headphones are designed to be just as easy to repair as they were to build. Every part can be replaced individually. If something breaks, you do not need to buy a whole new pair. You just replace the part that broke, and your child fixes it themselves.
That is the idea. And those three returns tell us it is working.
Our Favourite Return Ever
One of those three returns made us smile from ear to ear.
An uncle bought his nephew a pair of Kibu headphones as a gift. What he did not know was that the boy's parents had already bought him a pair too. Nobody had told anybody. The nephew ended up with two identical pairs of headphones, and the uncle came to us to return his.
A duplicate. The best kind of problem to have.
What Happens When Something Goes Wrong
For the other returns, we dug into why. And what we found is that when something does go wrong with a pair of Kibu headphones (which is very rare), most parents do not think to send them back.
They get in touch with us. We find out which part needs replacing. We send it out. And then their child fixes it themselves.
That is the moment we designed Kibu for. Not the unboxing, not the first listen, but the moment a small person realises they can fix something with their own hands. That it is not broken forever. That they have the power to make it right again.
As our founder Sam says: "When a child builds something themselves, it changes how they feel about it. When they learn they can fix what they've made, it changes how they see everything they own."
Built to Last, Designed to Teach
Most children's electronics are built to be replaced. Kibu is built to be kept.
Every pair is 3D printed from post-consumer recycled plastic, designed with as few parts as possible, and made to be understood rather than just used. When children build their own headphones, they stop seeing technology as a mystery. They start seeing it as something they can figure out, take care of, and fix.
That is a pretty wonderful thing to put in a child's hands.
If you would like to build a pair with your family, we would love to have you join us.
