Kibu Wins Dezeen Awards Sustainable Design of the Year

We've got some very exciting news. Kibu has won Sustainable Design of the Year at the 2025 Dezeen Awards!

The Dezeen Awards are one of the biggest celebrations of design in the world. Every year, thousands of incredible products, buildings, and ideas compete for a spot on the winners' list. To take home the top prize for sustainable design—well, we're still pinching ourselves.

What the Judges Said

The judges had some lovely things to say about why Kibu stood out. They noticed something special about headphones that children can put together themselves:

"These circular children's headphones turn their sustainable credentials – the fact that they can be easily assembled and disassembled for recycling – into a teachable moment. By allowing kids to construct their own headphones, they encourage a future generation of designers to learn about how things are made and how they could be made more sustainably."

That phrase—"a future generation of designers"—made us smile. Because that's exactly what we hope for. Every child who clicks Kibu together is learning something important. They're discovering that the things we use every day don't have to be mysterious black boxes. They can be understood, taken care of, and made to last.

Why This Award Means So Much

There are lots of products out there that try to be kinder to the planet. What makes Kibu different is that it invites children into the story. It doesn't just sit on a shelf being sustainable—it teaches sustainability through play.

When you snap those colourful pieces together, you're learning about how things fit. When you swap a part for a new colour, you're learning that products can change and grow with you. When something breaks and you fix it yourself, you're learning that mending is better than throwing away.

These are big ideas, but they don't feel big when you're having fun. And that's the magic of Kibu.
